On September 5th INORAN rocked the stage of MTC club in Cologne, Germany. Lucky already to see the artist unusually close up during the live, we sat down to the interview afterwards on two classy bar stools, with the stage light spot on!
AnN: INORAN, thank you for today. Let’s talk about your tour in Europe. You already played two shows, today has been the third. How does it feel? Has there been anything really surprising this far?
INORAN: Oh, how can I even say this? Really, the lives in Stockholm, in Vienna, in Cologne have each been the very first for me. There’s always this feeling that everything is surprising and I feel happy about everything, and there’s this feeling that I want to come back at once!
AnN: How is the audience compared to back in Japan? Compared to when LUNA SEA played in Bochum in 2010?
INORAN: The Europeans are somehow… straight forward during lives. Yeah. But I don’t feel any difference compared to Bochum. The audience strikes me as very warm and welcoming. It’s a very good audience to have.
AnN: You explored a lot of styles in your musical career until now. Do you think the European tour will influence you somehow?
INORAN: From now on? Sure! Of course, it influences me. Even now, during the tour I’ve started writing new songs.
AnN: What made you decide you want to come to Europe? Was it a idea that you’ve been carrying around a long time already or was there a special trigger?
INORAN: There’s the music I do right now, the music I create right now and there are my wonderful band mates and the great staff I have. So I thought I really want to come with them to Europe.
AnN: Today you played a lot of your new songs from Dive Youth, Sonik Dive. Which of the new songs is your favorite?
INORAN: That’s Get Laid after all.
Now, why may that be? For that question we get a very shy-naughty smirk from INORAN, making everybody laugh out loud. “It’s the word, it’s the word!” seems to be a rather limp excuse to us. ;)
AnN: Let’s change the topic to your new project Muddy Apes: Did the work with Taka Hirose on Hide and Seek start the idea for an album together? Is there anything more after Crush it! planned?
INORAN: Well, I want to go with Muddy Apes on a tour in Europe, too. They are all friends, you see, and friends of friends. We work and play as it comes.
AnN: And how is it to work with these guys? Are the conversations in English?
INORAN: Well, there are many times when we speak English. It’s half English, half Japanese I’d say.
AnN: Could you make new experiences? Is the working style somehow different?
INORAN: With foreigners it’s all about the excitement, the vibe. That’s a bit different, yes.
AnN: You're greatly involved in the fashion industry, designing jewelry, your own clothing line and using your name to promote the brands that you love. But, what does INORAN wear on a day off? Is he as fashionable as he's on stage, or is he more casual?
INORAN laughs, jumps of his chair, spreads his arms and shows himself. “Like that, ok?” We see a very casual but stylish looking INORAN in jeans that are ripped along the leg, wearing very dark gray t-shirt with slightly longer sleeves and, of course, a black hat that is decorated with little feathers. “Ok!”
AnN: In one of your blogs you showed a picture of something you cooked. Do you like cooking?
INORAN: Yeah, I like it. I like it very much.
Are you good at cooking?
INORAN: What can I say? It’s one of my hobbies.
AnN: Change of topic. Please name three of your songs you would like people curious about your music to listen to?
INORAN: Hide and Seek, …No Options and: Get Laid!
As everybody bursts out laughing again he adds “…and: Nasty!”
AnN: Give us a Message for the fans, please.
INORAN: The live today in Cologne was really great, the best! It was really, like, I want play again right now! I’ll come back soon!
Lights off!
AnN thanks INORAN and Paul Chu for making the interview possible.
